For example, for a 4x4 grid with a loop around R1C1 only, unused edges in R1 are R1C23,R1C34 and possibly the right hand edge. Would a clue on R1C23 be 1 (ie counting R1C34 only) or 2 (ie including the right hand edge of R1C4) |

Yes, unused grid edges are counted. In the IB example, this is shown with the '5' clue.
For your 4x4 example, a clue on R1C23 would be 2. |

I would have considered this a fair request if we only had individual examples and not a combined version. We have taken care to include most permutations of all the elements. You can ask here about specific doubts regarding any of the different clue types. |

Thanks, this helped me in comprehending the rules. |

Country : United Kingdom | What are the rules regarding 0 clues in line of sight? In particular is it possible to have a 1 clue outside the loop, which doesn't point to any segments? (i.e. the correct value is 0) |

All line of sight clues need to point to a segment. We will clarify this in the next version of the rules. |

You can use any notation (loop or colouring ), as long as it is consistent throughout the grid and solution is clear. |
