In Tapa Guard, is there any end to "how far" a guard looks across a puzzle? Does it end at another clue? I misunderstood the instructions at first and imagined it was "immediately adjacent shaded cells" only.

The IB states that
"Additionally, each digit clue also represents a guard. The digit's value indicates the number of shaded cells in the corresponding direction. A digit in the undivided cell must satisfy the count constraint in at least one of the four directions. "

The cells need not be immediately adjacent, as the example suggests. A guard's view extends to the edge of the grid and is not blocked by other clues.

Solved example for the same:

Sentinels (coded)
The rules mention shaded cells, but the clue cells are not shaded in the example.

The rules are based on the competition booklet format. The IB has already gone for printing.
Here is the IB puzzle synced to the PB format:

17.4 Easy as clue pool: in the example, when a clue only sees letters in 3 directions the one unclued direction matches the one without letters.

Is this a rule of the puzzle? or would the puzzle be considered valid if, say, the B in R3C1 gets moved to the left of its clue
